Bhagyaraj is one of the very few directors in the Tamil film industry who has been widely acclaimed for his screenwriting. The actor-director passed away following a heart attack on Saturday, June 27, 2026. He was Bharathiraja’s favourite assistant director.

The guru passed away on June 10, and the disciple followed suit after a fortnight. Earthy humour, man-woman dynamics, and rooted stories defined Bhagyaraj’s legacy. Acknowledged as an ace wordsmith, and famed for his intutive comic timing, Bhagyaraj believed that out of crisis, comes comedy.

He was known for helming more than 25 films. A gifted writer, one who could seamlessly blend humour, emotions, and sharp social takes. Here are articles on him covered by The Hindu.
